Director of Finance & Administration
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Austin and ventured all the way downtown to attend The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘em!) to attain my undergrad and master’s degrees. I have a broad range of experience in finance, accounting, operations and business strategy as an external auditor, management consultant, and CFO for Big 4 firms, forensic accounting, genetics startup, and options and futures trading companies.
What are your responsibilities at (un)Common Logic?
My responsibilities include managing finance, accounting, administration, and operations functions within the company to support the various groups across (un)Common Logic and its related companies.
What’s your favorite thing about working at (un)Common Logic?
The culture. The people are great to work with and the founders are innovative and forward-thinking. This provides the opportunity for continuous learning from so many interesting people in such an exciting industry.
What’s the most challenging aspect of your job?
I’m a newbie on the team, so at this time I’d say it’s all about coming up to speed as rapidly as I can so that I can be a value-add to the team as soon as possible. There is a lot to learn with so many moving parts; but that makes it exciting!
Anything big happening this year outside of work?
I got engaged - that's pretty big!
What makes Austin special?
Austin is absolutely home to me – my family, who I’m very close with, is here. Also, the food is amazing and it’s a super outdoorsy town with a very unique culture all its own. There’s such an incredible range of people here, from ordinary to downright weird (a thing Austin is rightfully proud of), making the city so much fun to be a part of. I hope to get a dog soon to give myself even more excuses to be outside in this amazing city.
What makes you (un)Common?
I love to play golf. I particularly enjoy it when a guest of our golf group is clearly concerned that it’s going to be a long day waiting on me to play from the red (women’s) tees and try to keep up – of course my goal then is to out-drive them from the men’s tees starting from the first hole. I play every Sunday with my godfather and over the years we have always invited different people to join us from a variety of industries, government, arts & entertainment, and other interesting walks of life. As a result, it has been such a fascinating opportunity to learn about experiences, businesses, life and culture from people from so many different backgrounds and places around the world.
What’s the biggest change in your industry you think will occur by the end of 2018?
I believe A.I. for big data and business management will be increasingly adopted, utilized, and will become an extremely impactful and critical tool for how we analyze and manage our operations.
